Business Innovation Stream

This temporary visa is for people with business skills. It lets you operate a new or existing business in Australia.StayUp to 4 years and 3 months.

Processing Time

  • 75% of applications: 19 months
  • 90% of applications: 21 months

You must operate a new or existing business in Australia. You can stay in Australia for up to 4 years and 3 months. You must first be nominated by an Australian state or territory government. Apply for a permanent Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (Subclass 888) Business Innovation stream.

You must

  • score at least 65 on the points test
  • provide proof of your business success (annual turnover, ownership stake)
  • have total net business and personal assets of at least AUD800,000

Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188)

Investor Stream

This temporary visa requires you to invest AUD1.5 million in an Australian state or territory and maintain business and investment activity in Australia.

Stay

Up to 4 years and 3 months.

Processing Time

  • 75% of applications: 20 months
  • 90% of applications: 21 months

You must invest AUD1.5 million in an Australian state or territory. You can stay in Australia for up to 4 years and 3 months. You must first be nominated by an Australian state or territory government

With this visa, you can

  • carry out business and investment activity in Australia
  • stay in Australia for up to 4 years and 3 months
  • apply for a permanent Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (Subclass 888) Investor stream.

You must

  • make an investment of AUD1.5 million in an Australian state or territory
  • score at least 65 on the points test
  • have a net business, investment, and personal assets of at least AUD2.25 million.

Management consultants win skilled visa reprieve

Professional service firms have won a major concession from the government over visa rules and can now import management consultants for up to four years and offer these workers a pathway to permanent migration.

The government backdown came after changes to the 457 work visa system announced last May led to management consultant moving to the short-term skilled list which limited stays for up to two years with no pathway to permanent residency. Previously, management consultants could be sponsored for up to four years and be eligible to apply for permanent residency.
